It’s the News...you want to know.

This is an experimental blog. My friend Andy and I have played “scoop” for over 10 years. When a preacher moves or a church opens we try to stump each other AND to be the first with the news. More than anything it’s just cause we are interested - on this blog we’ll try to keep you posted as to what’s happening as we find it out. It is not a page to endorse or out any preacher on their position on any matter. It’s just info, what you do with it is your business.

Just a quick report. The last couple of weeks we have lost some men of profound influence who left their mark on the lives of many and who will be missed: Jack Exum, Wilard Tate, and Henry Farrar.

We posted the opening at Goodwood not long ago but they have sent us some updated info you’ll want to look at. The Goodwood Church of Christ in Baton Rouge, LA is looking for a pulpit minister. Their preacher, Doug Burleson, will be leaving in June 2010 to take a position on the Bible faculty at Freed-Hardeman University. The church has 300 members and is active in Honduras and South Louisiana mission work and Disaster Relief among other things. The Goodwood congregation is looking for a man who is married, with at least a college degree, who has experience in the pulpit. For a .pdf of the job description please go to www.goodwoodchurch.org and click on the “preacher search” tab. For more clarification feel free to contact the church office at (225) 272-8936.

In the shocking scoop of the week Phil Waggoner is leaving Mt. Juliet. He has been the youth minister there for some time and will be missed. He will be leaving there in August. For more info go to www.mtjuliet.org

This one has been open for a while but I don’t think I’ve posted it. The Rogersville, Alabama church is looking for an associate who would work in youth and education. They have a new building, are growing, and lots of youth. They run about 375-400 on Sundays. For more info go to http://www.rogersvillecoc.org/

The Savannah church has gone back to Jim Chamblee to work with them. He leaves West Dyersburg to help with this good work.

In another shocker Brian Wakefield is leaving Dalradia on Montgomery, AL. To learn more about this exciting work go to: http://www.dalraida.org/

By the way, in none of the above goings is the situation a bad one. That is sort of rare but good news when looking into them.

The Strickland congregation just outside of Corinth, MS will begin interviewing candidates for an Associate/Youth position. They are hoping to hire someone full time. To learn more contact Brad Dillingham (the grand one) dilljbd@bellsouth.net.

That’s all I’ve got right now that isn’t already posted. Share what you know so others might benefit!
The place to find what’s happening in scoopville. Got a couple of new things for you today from here.

In a few minutes (as I type this in chapel - shhh, don’t tell anybody) FHU will introduce two new teachers. Our dear friend and former co-worker. Doug has been doing the excellent work of preaching at the Goodwood church in Baton Rouge, LA where he helped them be a lead church in the Katrina Relief Effort. They also are introducing Justin Rogers who is a grad of Hebrew Union. Both will be a blessing at FHU to the spiritual formation and depth of the students here.

Here’s a couple of other scoops:

The Lawnville Road congregation in Kingston, TN is looking. Lawnville Road Church of Christ is in the search for a minister. C/C, 1301 Lawnville Road, Kingston, TN., 37763. For details contact Wayne Woodlee who serves as one of their elders. His number is 1.865.376.9525. Or visit their website: lawnvilleroadcoc.org. That scoop is from Paul Froshey.

Drew Crosby gets the scoop on Cabot, Arkansas. They are looking for a pulpit guy. The church there has 400-450 people. The former preacher was Bruce Green. www.cabot.com

As always, share what you know with others! If you are new around here and want to get updates as I get them send me an email below and I’ll gladly add you.

Vance is not gone or going to my knowledge.
Second - Just so you will know I don’t try to judge the faithfulness, the worthiness, the climate or “what happened” in any work I post on this page. Yes, I do have opinions but on this page I try to just give information. As I’ve said before it is like the want ads - it is your job to check something out before you “buy” or “apply”. Thanks for the large number who read this, who share their information with others and who tell others about this page.

Breckenridge, TX a church of about 250 in a small town is looking for a preacher.

The LuVergne congregation has hired Jim Morgan who had been working with the West Nashville Heights (now Charlotte Heights church).

The Collegeside church in Cookeville, TN is looking for a pulpit guy, a youth minister and college minister. For more info go to: www.collegeside.org The attendance at Collegeside runs around 600-700.

The Cary congregation in North Carolina is looking. I held a meeting there several years ago and enjoyed both the church and the area. www.carychurchofchrist.org The attendance at Cary runs about 350 and they are moving into a new addition soon.

The Scenic Hills Church of Christ is currently in search of a new Youth Minister. Kyle Rye who has served as the YM is taking the role of the Pulpit Minister. The youth program has 30 plus students in 6th-12th grade. To learn more go to their website where they can find a link to information about this position on our home page.

Finally the Charlotte Heights church in Nashville is looking for a full time youth minister. Salary is not etched in stone and they can provide a house and utilities. A married guy is preferred...but that would not keep us from hiring the right guy. Their attendance is around 275. They want to fill the position soon. Send resumes to Darrell.blankenship@lipscomb.edu or call Darrell at 615-975-7157.

OK, so that’s what I’ve got, what’s new with you?

There’s a lot to report today:

Let’s start with what may be the major news of today. James Waugh scoops himself with the report that he is leaving the pulpit at Hillsboro to take the work at McDermott Road church in Plano, TX. James has been at Hillsboro for a number of years and his friendship has been a blessing to me personally. This is a pretty major scoop as, when I think of great preaching I have always thought of Hillsboro: J.P. Sanders, B.C. Goodpasture, Batsell Barrett Baxter, Mack Wayne Craign, Mark McInteer and Marlin Connelly have all filled that pulpit...enough said. The McDermott Road church is a church plant that is about 10 years old. Our friend Tim Pyles helped in planting that congregation. They now run about 800 a Sunday I think. Blessings to all involved. www.hillsboro.org

Kyle Macon, the associate minister, tells me that the Owl Hollow church in Winchester, TN is looking and ask us to post it. He says: “This family oriented congregation of 140 members is seeking an outgoing, people-oriented, God fearing family man who has a love for God, His word, and reaching out to a lost and dying world. Team oriented mentality is a definitely a plus and a positive outlook on life and faith is a must. Congregation is centrally located between Nashville, Chattanooga, and Huntsville. If applicants are interested in the position they can initiate contact with the congregation through email (owlhollow@cafes.net) or call the church at 931-967-1336.”

Paul Spurlin gets the scoop that the - Atlas looking for a youth minister as the YM there is, we understand, moving to work with the church at Killen. There preacher is the one and only Van Vansandt and their website is http://atlaschurchofchrist.com/

The Shelby Avenue church in Nashville is looking for a preacher. Joey Dixon has been the preacher there. Call the office at (615) 227-3910;

And on the good news for us front, the Spring Hill congregation has employed Craig Evans to be their new preacher. Craig has been the YM in Calvert City, KY so I suppose they will be looking for someone to fill his role there. I’m happy for our friends and neighbors at Spring Hill in this decision.

Buddy Johnson sent me a scoop full of info from Cookeville:
Collegeside Church of Christ is looking for a youth minister
•	Kevin White is the preacher at Collegeside
•	About 600+ in weekly attendance
•	This vacancy was created when Kelly Campbell decided to accept the preaching responsibilities at Hendersonville

Willow Avenue Church of Christ is looking for an associate minister - Clarence Deloach is the preacher at Willow:
•	About 450-500 in weekly attendance
•	This vacancy was created when Mike Webb left Willow to preach for Double Springs

Scyamore Church of Christ is looking for a campus minister (Tennessee Tech University)
•	Jason Hart is the preacher at Sycamore
•	About 450 in weekly attendance

So, that’s what I have today, what’d I miss or get wrong? Thanks for your information, that is what makes this page worthwhile. If you know of churches looking please send me their info and if you know of preachers who would want to know more about this forward the URL to them. If you are new here and want to subscribe at no charge just shoot me an email (if you want to subscribe at a price, feel free to send me any amount you want to! :)).

I hope this info is helpful, that is my only goal with it.

I’ve got more coming soon - real soon - but thought I’d go ahead and send you an update today:

The Bethel congregation in Joelton, TN is looking for a part-time teacher. He will be responsible for teaching two adult classes per week (Sunday morning and Wednesday night). He will not be considered an associate minister. He will have no other responsibilities related to his employment other than teaching the classes. This is a paid position. Naturally they expect the person to be able to teach! Prior ministerial experience is not required. They did include that “Candidates will not be summarily disqualified for not having a wife, children, masters degree or gray hair” (but they didn’t say anything to me about no hair :)). If you are interested, please contact James Hayes at jfhayes@comcast.net or 615-876-4413 (leave a message).

A couple of quick notes on churches that have hired:
The Bellwood church in Murfreesboro, TN has hired Tony Holt. And Hartsville Pike in Gallatin has hired Brian Jarrett. Congratulations to both of these churches and ministers.

Jeremy Houck, one of our lead scoopers from Alabama (also known as “the great state”) sends this info: The Waynesboro Church of Christ in Waynesboro, Mississippi (not Tennessee, you can breath again Mitchell) is seeking a man who has seen his children graduated from high school (now, that’s an interesting way to put it). They have a preacher’s house with 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 baths; about 1900 sq ft. They can afford to pay 42k to 45k in salary. Presently they do not have elders and about 15 men attend their business mtgs. The attendance has been higher but lately it runs 50+. Contact Doug Cook at dougcook@live.com for more details.

The Highway 9 congregation in Piedmont, Al. is in need of a preacher. Steve Hall is leaving to begin another work on January 15. The congregation has approximately 65 in attendance every Sunday and close to that on Sunday night and Wednesday night. They are a great group of faithful Christians. They do have a preachers house next to the building. They do not have elders but that could change. You can contact Steve @ preachersrhall@gmail.com.

So, what have I missed that can be made public?
