There is a lot of varied and big news in this update to The Scoop Blog! So hang on tight.

First, I want to announce the following guys who are going to be a part of helping “The Scoop Blog”:
Roger Shepherd - in south Alabama
Robert Jefferies - in West Tennessee
Jeff Jenkins - in Texas
We need more ears and eyes to help out in keeping us all abreast of what’s happening. I’m looking for people in different areas. If you like to help keep up with such info let me know.

Second: There is a secretary/administrative person moving to Nashville area. She has been secretary for a church in Florida...and is kin to me. She is completing a degree in marketing. If you know of a church secretary opening in the Nashville area or another position she might fill contact me and, thank you!

Third: I got the note below from our friend Kirk Brothers at Graymere. I’m happy to help you help him stuff. It’s pretty self-explanatory:

Now, on to the scoops:

Our friend John Parker who does interim work had five-bypass open heart surgery a few days ago. He is recovering well BUT was scheduled to begin a stint with the Cave City, KY congregation. So they are looking for someone to help them for the next 5-10 weeks while Brother Parker recovers. If you’d be interested in knowing more, email me at dale@edge.net.

Tim Parrish gets the personal scoop! Tim will be moving to work with the Woodward Park church in Fresno, CA! We’re happy for both Tim and his family and the church there. Of course that means the Central congregation in McMinnville, TN will be looking. Tim was at Central for 7 years. He is leaving on good terms. Central’s has seven elders and their attendance runs about 400-450 a week. Roger Shepherd gets to scoop himself this week: He will be moving to work with Amridge University in Montgomery, AL which means the Vancleave congregation in Mississippi is looking for a full time minister. Also, Roger is looking for fill-in preaching opportunities in the Montgomery area if you know of any please call him - 770-778-6290.

The church in Trenton, Georgia is looking for a retired preacher. They have a two bed room home on the church property. Their attendance is about 65 and they are in the process of appointing elders. Trenton is in the NW Georgia mountains just 10 minutes from Chattanooga, TN. There is no salary but they can offer the home free to a preacher who is looking for a place to 'retire' yet still be affiliated with a congregation that will offer him opportunities to continue to use his lifetime of experience. The Decatur Highway congregation has made some interesting decisions. Mike Whisenant will be moving back into the YM role and they will be looking for a new man for the pulpit. Their website is: http://www.dhcoc.com/#

I’ve been in contact with a young man who is VERY sharp and is looking for a role as a minister concentrating in Media Evangelism. If you need someone in that role OR know of such a role let me know and I’ll tell you more about him!

Ben Wiles gets to be the Scooper of the month for a number of places that are listed below:

The St. Mary’s congregation in St. Mary’s, GA is accepting resumes: Their weblink is http://www.churchofchriststm.org/. Their blurb says, "St. Mary’s church has been in existence over 50 years and continues to be a faithful congregation to God’s word. We currently have 2 elders and 5 deacons. God has blessed this congregation for years in a thriving community mentioned often in magazines as one of the best small towns to live in. We are a congregation of all ages with a thriving youth program.   We average just over 100 members and are self supporting and will pay comparable wages to teachers in the area."

The Sharon Grove congregation in Todd County, KY that has about two dozen folks is looking for a new “vocational minister”. Danny Bowman, who has been working there is looking to “cut back some”.

Clifty in Ben’s words: “A tiny little church in northern Todd County. Good people, but not a whole lot of them. If there are going to be any kids there, it's going to be because the preacher brings them.”

Barclay Riley has been the preacher at Adairville and is leaving that work. Adairville is in Logan County, KY just across the state line from Springfield. They have about 50-60 members.

Major Scoopage

So it’s only been 10 days since the last scoops were rolled out of the factory but there are a few new ones that you’ll want to know about:

First up: Between our morning worship time together and the Bible class time I checked and had a text message from a source I won’t name - seems he must have been “texting in church”! But I did appreciate the quick update :). His scoop: Kirk Brothers had just resigned at Graymere in Columbia. Kirk will stay with that good church where he has been so effective until the end of the year but then he will be going to work at Freed-Hardeman. I couldn’t be happier for Kirk getting to fulfill a lifelong dream. Congrats brother.

Then this scoop came last week from one of the elders at Willow Avenue in Cookeville TN. They are “seeking a full time minister to assume the pulpit responsibilities later this year when Clarence DeLoach retires” and will be accepting resumes through July 15. Willow has 3 elders and is very mission minded. Their average Sunday morning worship attendance is about 450. To find our more go to their website at www.willowcoc.com . Now for two “word on the street” reports:

The word is that East Brainerd in Chattanoga has hired.

Another scoop that I was able to confirm just before going to “press” is that Darrell Glenn is leaving Clinton, TN. Clinton is a little north of Knoxville. First things first. Your friend and mine, the one and only Ralph Gilmore, has some openings in his schedule. He and Joyce have backed off doing local work in a weekly commitment which allows him to have more Sunday’s available. First come, first serve, I’m sure. Contact rgilmore@fhu.edu or 800 FHU-FHU1. OK, get ready Brother Ralph!

Let’s stay with FHU sort of news. Sunday it was announced that David Lipe will be the new preacher at Sycamore in Cookeville. As I understand it he will continue to teach for sometime at FHU but he will begin his Sunday to Sunday preaching in January.

David Shannon indirectly gets the scoop for Morristown’s pulpit position opening. David, mentioned “the scoop blog” to one of the elders, Jim Dempster who contacted us. Their preacher, Josh Allen, is going to work with the church in Pikeville, KY in August. He was loved there and is leaving under the best of circumstances. The Morristown congregation has a Sunday morning attendance of 130. They have 4 elders and 6 deacons and hire a summer youth minister each year. They are in Hamblen county in East Tennessee. Here’s another scoop that might interest you: The church in DeQueen, Arkansas is looking. They have approximately 225 members and four elders. For more info contact Greg Revels at 870 642-5900.

The Westside Church in Elkton, KY is looking for a good full time minister and family. Their website is www.wscofc.org or call 270-265-5217 and leave a message. The word to me was to send them “great candidates: - so if you think you’re great - get to it! :)

The Church in Flatwoods KY is going to be looking for a pulpit guy. This is a congregation of around 200 members. Word on the street is that they have strong leadership! The last preacher, John Brown, was there almost 20 years. And the scoop goes to Westley Hazel. They’ve also got a neat website: http://www.flatwoodschurchofchrist.org/

It’s been a while since we last updated and I’ve got some that might interest you. There was a small problem in that somewhere in saving some things in Evernote I lost one scoop. If it is your’s - I’m sorry and if you will let me know I will correct it (and yes, the picture is the LG Scoop - so for all you officiates it is a “scoop blog approved scoop picture” :). With no further interruptions - here are the latest scoops:

Let’s start with the “papa” scoop. My son Philip has accepted the youth work with the Mount Juliet congregation outside of Nashville. Natually I’m excited for he and Laura. But this means the Savannah church will be looking for a new youth guy. Savannah is a great congregation and “does youth work right”, they have for years. Our friend Jeremy Haulk is gonna become a Texan (and you thought he was hard to live with before - that’s just for you Jeremy :)). He will be working with the church in Port Arthur, TX. That means the New Hope congregation in Guin, AL will be looking.

Keith Karsasfgnaknsef (actually Kasarjin - but that is what I always think when I start trying to type his name) will be doing fill-in work and gospel meetings based out of Montgomery, AL. He has been with the good Main Street church in Pikeville, KY. They will be looking. I got a call from the Traverse City church in Michigan, 250 miles NW of Detroit. The guy told me they’d be sending me more info but so far this is all I have.

Finally, I got this long but well constructed scoop from Paul Stoval at the Maple Hill congregation where Wayne Miller is the preacher. They are looking for youth help:

“We are seeking a full-time Youth and Family minster. We are a congregation of approximately 900 members (700 avg. att. Sun. a.m.). We are located in Lebanon, TN (Wilson County), just 30 miles outside of Nashville. Maple Hill is a very old congregation with a great church family. We’ve only recently grown in numbers. For years we averaged less than 400 in attendance. We opened a new auditorium within the past few years and hired Wayne Miller as our pulpit minister. He fits very well with our culture of love and caring for each other. We currently have 4 full-time, and 1 part-time ministerial staff members (pulpit, associate, youth and children, media), 2 clerical staff and we contract with AGAPE for counseling services. We also have two members who are trained counselors and see clients for us. We also have a Mother’s Day Out program housed in our building and run by one of our members.

Our youth and family minister recently accepted a position on the College church staff in Searcy, AR. His resignation will be effective 8/1/10. We have teen facilities, but no family life center (recreational building). We are actively involved in the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes program. We have found it to be invaluable in the training of our youth for roles in the church. We have 8 elders and 39 deacons. We participate in CYC and EU youth programs. We have not recently participated in Winterfest or Impact. Given that we will try to be open-minded, the perfect candidate would be married, possibly with children. I would ask that potential applicants have some sort of ministerial or Biblical training, preferably in youth work. Our vision is to further our efforts to involve the congregation in youth ministry (equipping the saints for service). We feel strongly that it is our obligation to help young people, both of our flock and the community, to develop their OWN faith, not simply accept ours. We know that statistically a staggering majority of youth leave the church for good after high school graduation. It is our desire to do everything within our ability to stem that growing tide.

Scoops for your Friday

Are you ready for some fresh new scoops?

Let’s start at the head of the class. Fellow scooper, Houston Bynum is going to Happy Haven Children’s Home in Cookeville, TN as their new administrator. He will begin his work there on May 1.

That means that the White's Creek congregation in Davidson, CO is looking. This is just north of Nashville. They are looking for a part time preacher. Ray Jenkins is the elder to contact - 615 870-9834. The church there runs 50-60 people.

Big scoop here. Barton Warren is moving to work with the South Green Street church in Glascow, KY. We couldn’t be happier for both.

This scoop from Hugh Fulford: The church in Brunswick, GA is looking for a full-time preacher. They have around 55 members. Brunswick is on the southern coast of Georgia, near both Jekyll and St. Simons Islands. Kent Townsend, elder, may be contacted at acentauri@bellsouth.net.

We posted then removed the work at Berry's Chapel. The elders tell “The Scoop Blog” that Dennis Mankins who has been an elder there will take on an associate role there.
